The Joint Legislative Hearing on Prop. 8, held in downtown Los Angeles yesterday, included about 75 Yes on 8 supporters who took to the curb to voice their support for Prop. 8. Supporters of all backgrounds came to listen to debates on marriage and to speak to California Senators and Assembly Representatives about the importance of passing Proposition 8.
One of our speakers, Dr. Morse, inspired an abrupt and long gale of applause from supporters as she passionately addressed the Committee, which many felt was deliberately one-sided in its comments and questions about the Proposition.
Pastor Ed Smith spoke to the group about how supportive the African American community will be in this important election. As an aside, African Americans formed the largest voting block for traditional marriage in 2000 when Prop. 22 was passed by more than 61% of the vote.
Our supporters were, as always, respectful of representatives of No on Prop. 8, who provided only about a third as many in the audience.
