ProtectMarriage.com is a growing, broad-based coalition of organizations, churches, and individuals who believe that marriage’s foremost purpose is the raising of healthy children in a family with a mom and a dad.

History
Just eight years ago, California voters overwhelmingly passed Proposition 22 by 61.4% of the vote, to keep marriage only between a man and a woman.

Ever since, advocates for same-sex “marriage” have been chipping away at Proposition 22. Examples include, Mayor Newsom of San Francisco who issued thousands of marriage licenses to same-sex couples in open defiance of Prop 22 and Assemblyman Mark Leno who keeps trying to pass a bill in the Legislature to legalize “gender-neutral” marriages, undermining the will of the people and the state constitution.

But most importantly, a judge in San Francisco ruled that there is a “right” to same-sex “marriage” under California’s State Constitution, and thus Proposition 22 (a regular law) is trumped. Unfortunately, we cannot rely on the appellate courts to correct this error. We await a decision by the California Supreme Court later this year.

Instead, we must protect marriage in the State Constitution by passing a Marriage Amendment on the ballot!

We believe that our organizations will be more effective together than operating separately. We recognize that resources – both grassroots activity and financial support – can be more significantly amassed for a successful campaign.

The advice and counsel of the fine members of the ProtectMarriage.com coalition, plus thoughtful legal research and polling, have produced the following, straightforward measure for the voters to adopt as the ProtectMarriage Amendment:

“Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”
